The Cycling Association of Thailand is wasting no time in planning its preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Japan. "Colonel Ink," the association's chairman, revealed they have secured a professional mountain bike coach, Mr. Robert Macalintal Herber Jr., to address weaknesses in cross-country cycling.
For other events, they aim for a top-three finish. In BMX, they hope to win a medal from Gomet Sukprasert, while in track cycling, they have hopes in Jai Angsuthasawit in the Keirin and Team Sprint events. For the men's road cycling, they hope for a medal from Arthit Poulard, a Thai-French cyclist, and for the women's road cycling, they hope for medals from Petchdarin Somrach and Jutathip Maneephan. Meanwhile, the 67th anniversary celebration of the Cycling Association of Thailand was well-attended by prominent figures in the sports world. Professor (Special) Charoen Wathanasin, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, praised "Colonel Ink" as a true sports administrator for the sake of sports. And that has propelled cycling to the forefront of Asian cycling.
"General Decha Hemkrasri," Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, presided over the 67th anniversary celebration of the Cycling Association of Thailand on February 26, 2026, at the Velodrome of the Sports Authority of Thailand, Hua Mak, Bangkok. In the morning, at 9:39 AM, General Decha led the association's executive committee and other prominent figures in the sports world in a ceremony paying homage to Phra Phutthanuphap Phichitchai, the Buddha statue of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), Thao Maha Phrom, and Phra Phum Chai Mongkol at the shrine in front of the SAT building. These are sacred sites revered by SAT staff and various sports associations.
At 10:09 AM, General Decha and the executive committee paid respects to the statue of Mr. Seri Trairat, the father of Thai cycling, and the statue of Mr. Preeda Chullamontol, the late gold medalist at the 5th Asian Games. At 10:20 AM, a Buddhist ceremony was held, presided over by Phra Phromwachiranuwat (Athorn Intapanyo), Abbot of Wat Bophit Phimuk Worawihan and Advisor to the Ecclesiastical Council of Region 3. Monks chanted prayers, and the association executives offered lunch and traditional Thai offerings to the monks. A merit-making ceremony was also held to dedicate merit to the six former presidents of the Cycling Association: Police Lieutenant General Torsak Yomnak, Mr. Seranee Chinwala, Mr. Seri Trairat, Mr. Pornsek Kanjanachari, General Yutthana Khamdee, and Air Chief Marshal Chanin Chandrubeksa, as well as former members of the executive committee, former national athletes, and those involved in cycling who have passed away. Following that, the chairman and participants offered lunch to the monks.
The anniversary celebration of the Cycling Association of Thailand was attended by a large number of prominent figures from the sports world and representatives from various sports associations, including Assoc. Prof. Pimol Srivikrom, President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand; Prof. (Special) Charoen Wattanasin, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand; Dr. Warin Tanthasupasiri, former Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand; Mr. Preecha Lalun, Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand; Mr. Somporn Chaibangyang, President of the Volleyball Association of Thailand; as well as representatives from government agencies, the military, the police, and various companies and businesses, all expressing their support for General Decha's dedication and development of Thai cycling to become one of the top sports in Asia.

(พิเศษ) เจริญ วรรธนะสิน รองประธานคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทยฯ กล่าวว่า ตนเองนับถือผู้บริหารสมาคมกีฬาหลาย ๆ ท่าน หนึ่งในนั้นคือ พลเอกเดชา เหมกระศรี นายกสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ เพราะพลเอกเดชาเป็นบุคคลที่ทำกีฬาเพื่อกีฬา และทำให้กีฬาจักรยานพัฒนาไปอยู่แถวหน้าของเอเชีย และภาพที่ตนเห็นในสำนักงานสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ ที่ได้สร้างรูปปั้นของ อ.เสรี ไตรรัตน์ บิดาแห่งวงการจักรยานไทย และรูปปั้นของ นายปรีดา จุลละมณฑล ราชาเหรียญทองเอเชียนเกมส์ ซึ่งไม่มีสมาคมไหนทำแบบนี้ สิ่งนี้เป็นสิ่งที่วงการกีฬาควรทำในการยกย่องปูชนียบุคคล ตนพูดได้อย่างเต็มปากและเต็มใจว่าพลเอกเดชาคือผู้บริหารกีฬาเพื่อกีฬาอย่างแท้จริง
พลเอกเดชา เปิดเผยว่า วันนี้เป็นวันครบรอบ 67 ปี วันคล้ายวันสถาปนาสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ ซึ่งได้มีการก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2502 ซึ่งสมาคมฯ ได้ทำผลงานอย่างต่อเนื่องมาโดยตลอดนับตั้งแต่ยุค นายปรีดา จุลละมณฑล ที่ได้ 4 เหรียญทองกีฬาเอเชียนเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 5 และ 7 เหรียญทองกีฬาแหลมทอง ครั้งที่ 4 หลังจากนั้นก็มีการพัฒนานักกีฬาอย่างต่อเนื่องมาโดยตลอด และในทุกการแข่งขันสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ ไม่เคยทำให้พี่น้องประชาชนผิดหวังไม่ว่าจะเป็นมหกรรมกีฬาซีเกมส์, เอเชียนเกมส์, โอลิมปิกเกมส์ สำหรับแผนงานที่ใกล้ตัวเข้ามาก็คือการแข่งขันกีฬาเอเชียนเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 20 ที่เมืองนาโงย่า ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ซึ่งจะแข่งขันระหว่างวันที่ 19 กันยายน-4 ตุลาคม สมาคมฯ จะเริ่มดำเนินการเก็บตัวนักกีฬาตั้งแต่วันที่ 1 มีนาคม ตามที่การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทยกำหนดไปจนถึงเดือนกันยายน
พลเอกเดชา กล่าวว่า แผนการเก็บตัวนักกีฬาชุดเตรียมเอเชียนเกมส์แต่ละประเภทจะแยกกันฝึกซ้อม ในส่วนของจักรยานเสือภูเขาเราโชคดีที่ได้ มร.โรเบิร์ต มาคาลินตัล เฮอร์เบอร์ จูเนียร์ โค้ชมืออาชีพชาวอเมริกันเชื้อสายฟิลิปปินส์ ซึ่งเป็นโค้ชที่ผ่านการอบรมขั้นสูงสุด LEVEL 3 ถึงแม้เงินเดือนจะสูงแต่สมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ ก็ยินดีจ่ายส่วนเกินจากที่การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทยอนุมัติเพื่อมาแก้ไขจุดอ่อนของนักกีฬาประเภทเสือภูเขาครอสคันทรี่ โดย มร.โรเบิร์ต จะเดินทางมาดูฟอร์มของนักกีฬาในการแข่งขันจักรยานเสือภูเขาชิงแชมป์ประเทศไทยฯ ประจำปี 2569 สนามที่ 3 ระหว่างวันที่ 6-8 มีนาคมนี้ ที่เทศบาลตำบลเขาพระยาเดินธง อำเภอพัฒนานิคม จังหวัดลพบุรี ว่ามีข้อบกพร่องจุดไหนและจะปรับแก้ไขอย่างไร
“ส่วนนักกีฬาประเภทอื่น ๆ ทั้งประเภทถนน, บีเอ็มเอ็กซ์ และลู่ ยังคงใช้นักกีฬาและสตาฟฟ์โค้ชชุดเดิมจากการแข่งขันกีฬาซีเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 33 ซึ่งสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ ได้ให้ข้อมูลกับการกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทยว่าอย่างน้อยนักกีฬาต้องติด 1 ใน 3 ของแต่ละประเภทที่เราส่งแข่งขัน ประเภทบีเอ็มเอ็กซ์ เราหวังเหรียญจาก ส.ท.โกเมธ สุขประเสริฐ และ นายพุทธภูมิ นาคแป้น แต่ก็มีคู่แข่งสำคัญคือนักปั่นญี่ปุ่นเจ้าภาพ ส่วนประเภทลู่ก็หวังจาก จาย อังค์สุธาสาวิทย์ ทั้งประเภทคีรินและทีมสปรินท์ ซึ่งคู่แข่งที่น่ากลัวก็เป็นญี่ปุ่นเช่นเดียวกัน ด้านประเภทถนนชายก็หวังจาก นายอาทิตย์ ปูลาร์ด นักปั่นลูกครึ่งไทย-ฝรั่งเศส ประเภทถนนหญิงหวังจาก ส.ท.หญิง เพชรดารินทร์ สมราช และ ร.ท.หญิง จุฑาธิป มณีพันธุ์ ก็หวังเป็นอย่างยิ่งว่าพี่น้องประชาชนชาวไทยจะให้กำลังใจนักปั่นไทยสู้เพื่อชื่อเสียงของประเทศ นักกีฬาทุกคนจะทำหน้าที่ให้ดีที่สุด” พลเอกเดชา กล่าว

The men's team category will have 20 professional teams participating, while the women's team category will also have 20 teams, including both professional and national teams. The race route is very scenic, with some stages finishing at Phu Foi Lom, offering a great opportunity for Thai cyclists to win stages. Thai athlete Sergeant Sarawut Sirirornchai previously won a gold medal in the road race at the 33rd SEA Games, cycling up to the Khao Khiao reporting station within Khao Yai National Park.
