The Cycling Association of Thailand is wasting no time in planning its preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Japan. "Colonel Ink," the association's chairman, revealed they have secured a professional mountain bike coach, Mr. Robert Macalintal Herber Jr., to address weaknesses in cross-country cycling. For other events, they aim for a top-three finish. In BMX, they hope to win a medal from Gomet Sukprasert, while in track cycling, they have hopes in Jai Angsuthasawit in the Keirin and Team Sprint events. For the men's road cycling, they hope for a medal from Arthit Poulard, a Thai-French cyclist, and for the women's road cycling, they hope for medals from Petchdarin Somrach and Jutathip Maneephan. Meanwhile, the 67th anniversary celebration of the Cycling Association of Thailand was well-attended by prominent figures in the sports world. Professor (Special) Charoen Wathanasin, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, praised "Colonel Ink" as a true sports administrator for the sake of sports. And that has propelled cycling to the forefront of Asian cycling.
"General Decha Hemkrasri," Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, presided over the 67th anniversary celebration of the Cycling Association of Thailand on February 26, 2026, at the Velodrome of the Sports Authority of Thailand, Hua Mak, Bangkok. In the morning, at 9:39 AM, General Decha led the association's executive committee and other prominent figures in the sports world in a ceremony paying homage to Phra Phutthanuphap Phichitchai, the Buddha statue of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), Thao Maha Phrom, and Phra Phum Chai Mongkol at the shrine in front of the SAT building. These are sacred sites revered by SAT staff and various sports associations.
จากนั้นเวลา 10.09 น. พลเอกเดชา พร้อมคณะผู้บริหารฯ สักการะรูปปั้น อ.เสรี ไตรรัตน์ บิดาแห่งวงการจักรยานไทย และสักการะรูปปั้นของ นายปรีดา จุลละมณฑล ราชาเหรียญทองกีฬาเอเชียนเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 5 ที่ล่วงลับไปแล้ว เวลา 10.20 น. เป็นพิธีสงฆ์ โดยมี พระพรหมวชิรานุวัตร (อาทร อินทปัญโญ) เจ้าอาวาสวัดบพิตรพิมุขวรวิหาร และที่ปรึกษาเจ้าคณะภาค 3 เป็นประธานฝ่ายสงฆ์ พระสงฆ์เจริญพระพุทธมนต์ ผู้บริหารสมาคมฯ ถวายภัตตาหารเพลแด่พระสงฆ์ ถวายเครื่องไทยธรรม และมีพิธีบังสุกุลเพื่ออุทิศส่วนกุศลให้แก่อดีตนายกสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ ทั้ง 6 ท่าน ได้แก่ พลตำรวจโท ต่อศักดิ์ ยมนาค, นายเศรณี จินวาลา, นายเสรี ไตรรัตน์, นายพรเสก กาญจนจารี, พลเอกยุทธนา คำดี, พลอากาศเอก ชนินทร์ จันทรุเบกษา รวมถึงอดีตคณะกรรมการบริหารสมาคมฯ อดีตนักกีฬาทีมชาติ และผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับวงการกีฬาจักรยานที่ล่วงลับไปแล้ว ต่อจากนั้นประธานและผู้เข้าร่วมในพิธีถวายภัตตาหารเพลแด่พระสงฆ์
สำหรับงานวันคล้ายวันสถาปนาสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานแห่งประเทศไทยฯ มีบุคคลวงการกีฬา และผู้แทนสมาคมกีฬาต่าง ๆ เข้าร่วมอวยพรกันอย่างคับคั่ง อาทิ ผศ.พิมล ศรีวิกรม์ ประธานคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทยฯ, ศ. (พิเศษ) เจริญ วรรธนะสิน รองประธานคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทยฯ, นพ.วารินทร์ ตัณฑ์ศุภศิริ อดีตรองประธานคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทยฯ , นายปรีชา ลาลุน รองผู้ว่าการการกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย, นายสมพร ใช้บางยาง นายกสมาคมกีฬาวอลเลย์บอลแห่งประเทศไทยฯ รวมทั้งหน่วยงานราชการ ทั้งทหาร-ตำรวจ และผู้แทนจากบริษัทห้างร้านต่าง ๆ มาให้กำลังใจ พลเอกเดชา ที่ได้ทุ่มเทและพัฒนาวงการกีฬาจักรยานของไทยให้ขึ้นมาอยู่อันดับต้น ๆ ของทวีปเอเชีย

(พิเศษ) เจริญ วรรธนะสิน รองประธานคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทยฯ กล่าวว่า ตนเองนับถือผู้บริหารสมาคมกีฬาหลาย ๆ ท่าน หนึ่งในนั้นคือ พลเอกเดชา เหมกระศรี นายกสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ เพราะพลเอกเดชาเป็นบุคคลที่ทำกีฬาเพื่อกีฬา และทำให้กีฬาจักรยานพัฒนาไปอยู่แถวหน้าของเอเชีย และภาพที่ตนเห็นในสำนักงานสมาคมกีฬาจักรยานฯ ที่ได้สร้างรูปปั้นของ อ.เสรี ไตรรัตน์ บิดาแห่งวงการจักรยานไทย และรูปปั้นของ นายปรีดา จุลละมณฑล ราชาเหรียญทองเอเชียนเกมส์ ซึ่งไม่มีสมาคมไหนทำแบบนี้ สิ่งนี้เป็นสิ่งที่วงการกีฬาควรทำในการยกย่องปูชนียบุคคล ตนพูดได้อย่างเต็มปากและเต็มใจว่าพลเอกเดชาคือผู้บริหารกีฬาเพื่อกีฬาอย่างแท้จริง
General Decha revealed that today marks the 67th anniversary of the founding of the Cycling Association of Thailand, which was established in 1959. The association has consistently achieved success since the era of Mr. Preeda Chullamontol, who won 4 gold medals at the 5th Asian Games and 7 gold medals at the 4th Southeast Asian Games. Since then, the association has continuously developed its athletes, and in every competition, it has never disappointed the public, whether it be the SEA Games, Asian Games, or the Olympic Games. Regarding upcoming events, the association will begin training its athletes for the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, from September 19th to October 4th, starting March 1st as stipulated by the Sports Authority of Thailand, and continuing until September.
General Decha stated that the training camp plans for each sport preparing for the Asian Games will be separate. For mountain bike cycling, we are fortunate to have Mr. Robert Macalintal Herber Jr., a professional American coach of Filipino descent, who has completed the highest level 3 coaching certification. Although his salary is high, the Cycling Association of Thailand is willing to pay more than the amount approved by the Sports Authority of Thailand to address the weaknesses of the mountain bike cross-country athletes. Mr. Robert will travel to observe the athletes' performance at the 2026 Thailand Mountain Bike Championships, Round 3, from March 6-8 at Khao Phraya Doen Thong Subdistrict Municipality, Phatthananikhom District, Lopburi Province, to identify areas for improvement.
“As for other cycling events, including road, BMX, and track, we will be using the same athletes and coaching staff from the 33rd SEA Games. The Cycling Association of Thailand has informed the Sports Authority of Thailand that we expect at least three medals in each event we are competing in. In BMX, we hope for medals from Sergeant Gomet Sukprasert and Mr. Phutthaphum Nakpaen, but we face strong competition from the host country, Japan. In track cycling, we hope for medals from Jai Angsuthasawit in both the Keirin and Team Sprint events, but we also face formidable competition from Japan. In the men's road cycling event, we hope for medals from Mr. Athit Poulard, a Thai-French cyclist. In the women's road cycling event, we hope for medals from Sergeant Phettharin Somrach and Lieutenant Jutathip Maneephan. We sincerely hope that the Thai people will support our Thai cyclists as they strive for the honor of our country. All athletes will do their best,” General Decha said.
Furthermore, General Decha stated that regarding the "Tour of Thailand 2026" international cycling competition, the Cycling Association of Thailand recently held a meeting with Nong Khai and Udon Thani provinces on February 24th. The men's team category will have 20 professional teams participating, while the women's team category will also have 20 teams, including both professional and national teams. The race route is very scenic, with some stages finishing at Phu Foi Lom, offering a great opportunity for Thai cyclists to win stages. Thai athlete Sergeant Sarawut Sirirornchai previously won a gold medal in the road race at the 33rd SEA Games, cycling up to the Khao Khiao reporting station within Khao Yai National Park.
